Crysis 2 is an upcoming video game developed by Crytek, published by Electronic Arts, EA decided to extend their deal with Crytek to publish Crysis 2, due for release on Microsoft Windows, the PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360 in 2010. It is the sequel to the 2007 video game Crysis and its spin-off, Crysis Warhead, as well as being the second of a planned trilogy. It will be the first game to use the new CryEngine 3 development engine. A one minute teaser was released during Electronic Arts' E3 2009 conference. In addition, a trailer was released in the 2009 Game Developers Conference, showing footage from the new CryEngine 3.
Overview
Although there have been no official statements about the plot a brochure for the game has claims that it will be set four years after the events of Crysis. Crytek has teased the redesigned Nanosuit, called "Nanosuit 2". There are two trailers, with one a trailer showing the suit in a wire-frame state, the other showing the suit in a complete state. A PDF brochure was accompanied in the release of the videos. The suit is to feature many improvements over its predecessor including:
A 20% increase in energy storage
60x optical zoom
32% more strength
EMP shielding
The magazine PC Gamer has published a preview of Crysis 2, showing a park and a destroyed city street with an alien device in the centre. In the article's interview Crytek hints at how the game will have "increased verticality" and will be set in a "new type of jungle" (New York City, a "concrete jungle"). In PC Gamer's preview, the release date was written to be December 2010.
A leaked image of the March issue of the official Playstation Magazine confirms that the game will take place in New York City.
In the next instalment of the Crysis series you play as 'Nomad' from the original Crysis game. An early demo has the player called 'Prophet', the mysterious squad leader from Crysis. Crytek amended this, saying that the player will be Nomad. However, they also mentioned a possibility on how Nomad is being mistaken as Prophet throughout the story. The protagonist is not meant to be wearing the nanosuit 2, and so Crynet Systems will be hunting the player down. There will be more freedom of choice, larger gameplay options and more tactical warfare. The soldiers will now be equipped with new equipment including the Nanosuit 2. The Nanosuit 2 gives players more freedom in their options of how to tackle situations on the battlefield. For the first time in the Crysis series this game will be available on consoles. Crytek have stated their intention to surpass the original game graphically and have noted that fighting in the game will be "catastrophically beautiful". Crytek have also claimed that the game will have lower system requirements than the original game.
The new game is set in New York City and once again players will have freedom of choice when it comes to what weapons and customizations you use. Crytek decided that they wanted to avoid making another game set in the jungle so the urban setting is a great change. The urban environment offers players more options when it comes to how to progress and planning attacks. Players of Crysis 2 will be able to do new things such as jump between floors and buildings. The new nanosuit has new features; however, the transition is 'softened': there will be a period of time where players are able to use both suit modes simultaneously before the suit fully changes. In the game environment, there will be plenty of structures that players can destroy, jump on, and take advantage of.
The nanosuit 2 has four modes.
Power mode - Enhanced speed and strength
Armor mode - Energy is drained instead of health.
Infiltration mode - Player's footsteps are softened. An invisibility cloak can be activated, which will drain energy.
Tactical mode - The weapons enemies use will be named, the cause of death and names of corpses will be shown, and items of interest will be highlighted.
Crytek has decided to not share any details about multiplayer yet and will release details about the story in Summer. EA has not released an exact release date, but has said Crysis 2 will be released in the third quarter of their fiscal year.
